Cinematic Spaces

Kaunas Architecture Festival and Kaunas International Film Festival joined forces to create an unforgettable festival of architecture and cinema. The unique space of Sakramentas will feature a custom tour, movie screening and discussion. The intriguing transformation of a church into a cinema and eventually an event space will serve as a starting point to explore and talk about the close but often complicated relationship between film and architecture.

Cinema and architecture are both inseparable and incompatible. Movement and static, play and structure, fantasy and reality. Epithets reveal the differences between the two worlds. But these worlds inevitably meet in space. Cinema is impossible without space, whereas any space can become a cinematic space. Kaunas Architecture Festival and Kaunas International Film Festival are creating a cinematic experience at a joint event at Sakramentas. At this multi-faceted event, Sakramentas will become the object of excursion and cinema space. Participants of the event will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the varied history of the building, which includes both cinema and architecture.
