08.22 - 08.26 THE PREPARATION OF THE STUDENTS’ WORKSHOP “A PLAYGROUND FOR RECOVERY” (ONLINE)
We will play with the Earth, we will design new approaches and answer some difficult questions. We will have a common playground – an unfinished “Britannica” hotel building in Kaunas (Lithuania) which naturally proposes five different design approaches to be tested by five mixed Lithuanian-Japanese design teams
09.23 - 10.23 LITHUANIAN AND JAPANESE ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION EAST-EAST 5 – “RECIPE FOR RECOVERY”
Human power and activity changed our natural landscapes and ecosystems, repurposed vast areas of land yet transformed the global climate. Throughout the centuries architects had the power of a Vision. What is needed now, is a vision for renewal and recovery.
Continuing the 20-year tradition of architecture cooperation between the two countries, the East-East 5 Exhibition presents 40 works by architects and architecture studios from Japan and Lithuania.
09.23 THE ARCHITECTURE FORUM “RECOVERY”
The Architecture Forum is part of the Kaunas Architecture Festival (KAFe) bringing leading voices in architecture to discuss urgent questions of the present and the future. This year’s Forum merges with the East–East 5 project and presents more than ten architects from Japan and Lithuania, who will reflect upon an overarching theme of “Recovery”. Together with a joint exhibition of Japanese and Lithuanian architects and a student workshop, the Forum will explore what it will mean to live in the future where environment becomes even more inhospitable and causes both economic and social disorder. The Forum will encourage discussions on healing urban fabrics, strengthening economic muscles, and reconstructing social fibers.
